Hello my name is Sheryl. I am an EMDR and Person Centered Psychotherapist. I am registered with EMDR UK, membership number G0528. I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) registration number 099291. I also hold a Graduate Membership with the British Psychological Society number 743564.
About Me
My journey to this point has been varied and interesting. I hold an Honours Degree in Psychology and a Post Graduate in Primary Education. Unable to find a teaching post in the early 1990's I took a detour into Human Resource Management where I remained for over 20 years. This experience has been hugely valuable to me in my current role. However over time I felt the pull to return to my original path and became a foster carer with Barnardo's Glasgow. Whilst also completing my two further post graduate studies in Person Centered Counselling at Strathclyde University.
Following this I developed my practice into School Based Counselling across several Scottish Secondary Schools. I now hold monthly online Q&A sessions for parents to discuss school counselling and how it may help their children.
Most recently I ventured into the world of EMDR (Eye Movement Densensitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy. This adds an extremely useful (and well researched) element to my work.
Currently I work with both young people and adults online and in Clarkston. I still carry out some work for schools.
I offer a safe space to talk and be truly listened to. I specialise in helping people cope with difficult memories/experiences.
My experience as a school counsellor helps young people feel understood.
During our beginning sessions I will help you to feel as safe and able as you can to share your story with me.
Together we will form a plan of what you would like to address and why.
I also offer the opportunity to work intensively with EMDR. This may involve several longer sessions over one or two weeks. Suitability for this program would be discussed during an initial telephone consultation.
As a Psychotherapist my role is to help you with the challenges life can throw at us. This can include:
Anxiety
Depression
Bereavement
Abuse
PTSD
Attachment
Domestic Violence
Parenting
Relationship difficulties
Self-esteem
Self harm
